‘The Badger’ to vie at Jogja-NETPAC filmfest

Iranian movie ‘The Badger’ has made its way to the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival in Indonesia.

Iranian movie ‘The Badger’ has made its way to the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival in Indonesia.

The film directed by Kazem Mollaee, the film will be screened at the Netpac section of the 15th edition of the event.

The feature film is about a woman named Soudeh who lives with her son in an old apartment.

A synopsis of the film reads, “Right before Soudeh Sharifzadegan’s second marriage, her 11-year old son, Matiar, is kidnapped. In desperation, she is forced to turn to her ex-husband for help in securing the ransom money. This act sparks off an exploration of past family tensions and the breakdown of relationships. A modern vision of Iran through the eyes of a modern Iranian woman”.

Hassan Majouni, Behnoush Bakhtiyari, Reza Behboudi, Vishka Asayesh, Mehraveh Sharifinia, and Gohar Kheirandish are on the cast list of ‘The Badger’.

The flick recently won the Best Narrative film award at the 27th Austin Film Festival as well as the grand prize for the best foreign feature at the 29th Berkeley Video & Film Festival, both in the US.

The Iranian feature is also the winner of a nomination for best film award at the 13th Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival in the US.

Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) is a premier Asian film festival in Indonesia focusing on the development of Asian cinema.

This festival not only contributes to introducing Asian cinema to a wider public in Indonesia, but it also provides a space for the intersection of many sectors such as arts, culture, and tourism.

This year, the event will host films from 29 countries on November 25-29, 2020.
